Aggressive bidding again

Post by John McLeod » Fri Mar 18, 2016 6:49 pm

London, 27 Feb, session 1, hand 9. In Hinterhand you hold
J: C
C: AK
S: ATK
H: TK8
D: Q
Do you bid, and if so how high?
I bid up to 20 and stopped, wanting hearts as an option. This allowed Mittelhand to make a lucky Null Ouvert.
Alban bought the contract for 20, picked up S7 and DA, and quite reasonably played in spades.
Patrick carried on to 22, which Mittelhand passed, and made a Grand.

I like the Grand bid - I might have done it myself had I been feeling a bit brave - but it does depend on finding that ace. I wonder what was Patrick's intention when he bid 22.

I'd definitely bid 20, possibly 22, but I don't think I'd go higher.

Could you post the full hands please; going from the scoresheet it seems to have been me who benefitted from the 'lucky null ouvert', but I can't find the spreadsheet with the hands.
