Here is another hand from the 15th July tournament. You are Mittelhand and you hold:
Code: Select all
J: C H D
S: 10 K 8
D: A K
Vorhand says yes to 18, 20 and 22. Do you pass or bid higher?
If you go on, Vorhand will say yes to 23 and pass 24. What now? Do you play spades hand, or pick up the skat in the hope that this will turn into a grand?

I think I would have passed when you did, although that wasn't best at the table. Both spades hand and Grand strike me as too speculative.

Sorry, I seem to have missed this one completely.
I think I'd bid on, it looks too good to pass.
At 24, I'd probably play Spades Hand. It doesn't quite meet Wergin's requirements but it's very close despite the singleton 10.
Next question: would I bid on beyond 33 and commit to Grand? It would probably would depend on my mood at the time, but I think on balance, yes.
