Which suit? (Session 1, hand 10)

Postby Patrick Phair » Fri Feb 28, 2014 3:32 pm

This is hand 10 of session 1 in the tournament on February 22.

Usually a six-card trump suit is enough and a side ace is preferable to the trump ace, but I thought this hand was an exception.

Hinterhand is declarer and after picking up the skat holds
J C S H D
C 9
S A K 8
H K 9
D Q 9
Because of the extra multiplier and the higher base value a simple spade game outscores hearts with schneider.

I think you are probably right. You might conceivably lose either game, but both are pretty safe. In my heart game I was lucky to make schneider.
