Re: Do you throw the hand in?

As Vorhand you hear both opponents pass and you hold:

J: C
C: ATK
S: T9
H: T
D: TQ9

(a) Do you bid?
(b) If you do you pick up SJ and C9 in the skat. What do you play?
(a) I do. Even if I'm not vorhand I bid, as I hate defending with a singleton T.

(b) I play Grand.

Jan 25th session 1 board 21

You are hinterhand. You win the bidding for 18, pick up the Skat, and see J C S C A T Q S Q 9 7 H A T 9 D Q What do you choose as trumps? The player who chose spades made his contract, the one who chose clubs went off. I mention this only because, at the end of the session, the player who preferred ...

Re: Jan 25th session 1 board 23

I felt that a stop in each suit, and the top trump, was worth a grand. It was made easy for me when Vorhand started by cashing his two aces.

Re: Hands from The Kite, October 19

On session 3 hand 1 I may have misdefended to let Schneider make. Does Nick (declarer in hearts) remember if he discarded CT9 or DQ7? If the former then Vorhand's lead of CA is less effective. (How obvious is this lead? It looks very good if declarer follows, but less so if not.) I don't remember -...

Hands from The Kite, October 19

The hand records from our session in The Kite on October 19 are now available at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/results/kite06/hands.xls, thanks to Patrick Phair. I have several comments on the choice of contracts. In Session 1 hand 9, hinderhand won the bidding for 18, picked up the Skat, and saw J ...

May event, session 2, hand 3

In our May event, session 2, hand 3, all four Middlehands won the bidding for 22 or less, picked up the Skat, and held J: C C: A T K Q 9 8 7 S: A 7 H: 7 D: T Three of them chose Null Ouvert, which is cold, for 46 points. One chose Clubs, and made Schneider for 36 points. It is easy to get carried aw...

May event, sessions 1 and 2, hand 21

In our May event, session 1, hand 21, all four hinterhands won the bidding for 20 or 30, picked up the Skat, and held J: C S C: A 9 S: A 9 8 7 H: A T Q 9 D: — All four declared grand, presumably discarding two small black cards. Three of them made it; one received the inspired lead of a diamond (fro...

May event, session 1, hand 2

In our May event, all four forehands won the bidding for 18 or 20, picked up the Skat, and then held J: C S H C: A 7 S: T 9 8 H: K Q 9 7 D: — Myself, I would make hearts trumps, discard ST and C7, draw trumps, and expect to lose two spade tricks, making Schneider if spades split 2-2. In fact spades ...
