Re: September 16th, Session 4, Hand 25

I think I discarded cA cT; it's unlikely I'll be winning any tricks with them. Or I may have discarded cT s8. But in retrospect that looks wrong: I can use the cJ to draw a round of trumps in the hope that that lets the cA cash, or I can use it to ruff the first round of spades; but a discard of cT ...

The Kite, Oxford

We've held several Skat tournaments in The Kite, near Oxford railway station. People sometimes ask me when the next one will be. But for the last couple of years, it's been unreliable, with changes of management and unexpected closures. It has recently reopened as an upmarket steak house, "The Porte...

Re: Skat in the Kite

I have fixed the date: Saturday March 28th. I shall add it to the list at http://www.weddslist.com/skat/index.html And I must issue an apology about my earlier statement that their beer, though still real, is now chilled. The Australian landlady had put a sign on the bar saying "chilled", but this w...

Re: Skat in the Kite

Possible dates for me are

Saturday February 28
Sunday March 1
Saturday March 7
Sunday March 8

I have noted Mark's preference for Saturdays.

Skat in the Kite

We used to hold regular Duplikat Skat tournaments in The Kite, Mill Street, Oxford. Soon after our tournament last January, the landlord, Paul, retired, and new Australian management arrived. I checked it in March and again in the summer, and found it very busy at weekends, with standing room only b...

Re: Do you throw the hand in (a different hand)?

As Vorhand you hear both opponents pass and you hold: J: - C: Q87 S: - H: AK7 D: ATK9 (a) Do you bid? (b) If you do you pick up HJ and SA in the skat. What do you play? (a) No. (b) I play diamonds: they are my longest suit, and they are cheapest to go off in. With four weak trumps, I would never ge...

Re: Do you throw the hand in?

As Vorhand you hear both opponents pass and you hold:

J: C
C: ATK
S: T9
H: T
D: TQ9

(a) Do you bid?
(b) If you do you pick up SJ and C9 in the skat. What do you play?
(a) I do. Even if I'm not vorhand I bid, as I hate defending with a singleton T.

(b) I play Grand.
